22.5 hours per week (part-time) – Fixed Term Temporary – 12 months

 

Salary: £25,854.66 pro-rata is £15,512.60

(Dependent on qualifications, skills and experience)

David Lewis is excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to join our well-established Speech and Language Therapy team.

David Lewis Clinical & Therapy Services provide support for people who live in residential services and students who access educational services. We are dedicated to improving the quality of lives for people with learning disabilities and or autism, epilepsy, complex learning disorders, including neurological impairments, and other complex support needs. The people we support ages range from 11 to end of life. We have a successful track record, built up over 120 years with expertise and are rated as GOOD by the CQC. 

As an SLTA in our team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating bespoke Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) resources to support the communication needs of the people we support,
  • Carrying out communication interventions with the people we support, with appropriate supervision and direction,
  • Supporting eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) interventions alongside a qualified Dysphagia Practitioner,
  • Contributing to whole-site projects to develop the David Lewis Total Communication environment,
  • Supporting the delivery of training packages to varied staff teams,
  • Supporting the running of therapy groups to build communication skills and knowledge across site,
  • Facilitating equipment needs, including liaising with equipment providers, placing orders, controlling stock levels and maintaining records.

 

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • An interest in supporting the communication and EDS needs of children and adults with a learning disability – ESSENTIAL
  • Experience of supporting people with communication and/or EDS needs – DESIRABLE
  • Experience in the field of Learning Disability – DESIRABLE
  • Experience using symbol-making software (e.g. InPrint 3) – DESIRABLE
