Specialist Physiotherapist

Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced band 5 or existing band 6 equivalent physiotherapist to join our onsite physiotherapy team. We provide person centred specialist physiotherapy therapy services to children and adults in the David Lewis School, College and Residential Services.

About Us

The David Lewis Centre is set within 200 acres of Cheshire countryside, just outside of Alderley Edge. The physiotherapy team provides specialist therapy to the residents who call David Lewis home as well as those who attend our onsite specialist school and college. We can provide specialist therapeutic services in a variety of settings including our dedicated onsite therapy department, our hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, swimming pool, onsite farm, sports complex and a variety of other fantastic services and settings that are all within walking distance of our therapy department.

As part of the physiotherapy team, you will work closely with other members of our onsite multidisciplinary therapy teams including, speech and language, occupational therapy, specialist learning disability nurses, the active support team and positive behaviour teams. 

Supporting the Therapy Team Lead and Head of Services, you will help shape the future development of Physiotherapy services to meet the needs of the people we support.   You will carry out the assessment and treatment of a specialist caseload ranging from paediatrics to adults with complex learning disabilities (including neurological impairments, severe learning difficulties and autism). You will also hold a hydrotherapy and rebound therapy caseload of which training can and will be provided as/if required. 

There is the opportunity for some working from home to fulfil some of the non-clinical requirements of the role. This includes service improvement projects, training/teaching opportunities and supporting departmental audits.

The Therapy department currently operates Monday-Friday. There are no weekend, on-call, evening or bank holiday requirements of this role. 

The successful candidate will:-

  • Hold a recognised Physiotherapy Diploma/ Degree Qualification (or equivalent) and Health Professions Council (HCPC) Registration.
  • Have at least 2 years of qualified clinical experience. Although desirable, this does not have to be specific to paediatrics, learning disabilities, autism or neurological impairment as additional support and training will be provided.
  • Previous experience in neurology, musculoskeletal and/or cardio respiratory is desirable.
  • Have an understanding of multi professional team working and an ability to promote the role of physiotherapy within that.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and be able to adapt to unpredictable or changing circumstances.
  • Be able to demonstrate the application of physiotherapeutic interventions in a variety of settings.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to teach, provide advice and support others including physiotherapy students and therapy assistant staff. Existing clinical educator training or experience is desirable but not essential. Training can/will be provided.
  • Ideally be a registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
